Why Bapatla for a weekend

At roughly 300–315 km from Hyderabad, the Bapatla coast is one of the closest real sea beaches to the city. The drive takes 6.5–7 hours, trains take about 6 hours, and the reward is a trio of beaches that most Hyderabadis still haven't discovered.

The plan

Leave Hyderabad on Friday evening by train or overnight bus so you wake up on the coast, or drive overnight and catch the sunrise. Saturday: sunrise and swimming at Suryalanka Beach, check in to a beach resort or Bapatla hotel, golden hour photography, and a seafood dinner. Sunday: drive south for the morning fish market and boat rides at Vodarevu, an easy stretch on to peaceful Ramapuram, then stop at Bhavanarayana Swamy Temple in Bapatla town before heading back.

Where to stay

The Suryalanka beach road has a strip of resorts and homestays — the full seaside experience, but book a week ahead for peak-season weekends. Bapatla town, 9 km inland, has budget and mid-range hotels near the station and bus stand.

What to pack

• Cash — many shacks, autos and small shops don't take cards or UPI.
• Sunscreen, hat and plenty of water for the beach hours.
• Swimwear and a change of clothes for each beach stop.
• Binoculars if you're visiting between November and February — the birds at Ramapuram are worth it.
• A power bank; charging points are scarce on the beach road.

Cost hints

Fuel for the round trip from Hyderabad is the biggest cost, followed by a beach-road stay. Food on the coast is very affordable — a seafood plate at a shack costs a fraction of city restaurant prices. Keep some buffer for boat rides, autos, and parking.
